Osun Food Support Scheme of the Oyetola Administration
Project Challenge (3)
The Scheme, flagged off Thursday April 1, 2021, was designed to alleviate welfare challenge and economic dislocation caused particularly by the COVID-19.
At least 30,000 needy and vulnerable citizens, including youths, widows, the aged and people living with disabilities across Osun State, were consistently provided with 5kg of food items ranging from rice, beans, semo and garri every month.
To ensure the donation reached the monthly 30,000-target audience, the distribution was done in partnership with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Osun Muslim Community, recognized indigenous religion groups and trade associations, leaderships of ethnic affiliates and market leaders.
For the 20 months the programme lasted, no fewer than 600,000 persons benefitted directly from the scheme.
The food support scheme stopped as soon as when Gov. Adeleke got to power in November 2022. And there has not been any replacement for it. Even the FG food given to the state government to distribute to the people of the state to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal was diverted and mismanaged.
