The ancient town of Ilesa in Osun State is set to witness a historic moment on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, as His Imperial Majesty, Clement Adesuyi Haastrup will be officially crowned as the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland. This coronation marks a significant transition, described by many as a massive power shift from politics to royalty, with the former deputy governor of Osun State now ascending one of the most revered traditional thrones in Yoruba land.
According to Dideolu Falobi, chairman of the Contact and Mobilization Subcommittee for the coronation, the new monarch’s emergence followed a deeply rooted traditional process involving rigorous selection, ancestral rituals, and official governmental approval. “It’s been about four to six months of cultural procedures,” he explained during an interview on Arise News. “He has gone through spiritual rites, received the staff of office, the sacred crown and victory sword passed down from the first king.”
Despite murmurs of discontent initially following his announcement as king, Dideolu emphasized that Owa Clement Adesuyi Ajimoko III is now fully accepted across the kingdom. “In a land as historically rich as Ijesa, competition is natural. But that’s proof the throne is worthy,” he added.
The Owa has also outlined a development-driven vision for Ijesa land. His plans include turning the region into the agricultural food basket of the Southwest. As part of this, fifty selected youths are currently undergoing intensive training in modern farming and agribusiness—forming the backbone of the kingdom’s agricultural revival.
The coronation ceremony will be more than cultural—it will be symbolic of a new era for Ijesa land, blending tradition, leade.rship, and development. With a strong political, royal, and business background, many believe Clement Adesuyi Ajimokun III is prepared to lead .
