ILESA WEST LG CHAIRMAN, HON. OLABODE OLUSEGUN PRESENTS ₦5.21bn “BUDGET OF FREEDOM” TO LEGISLATIVE ARM
The Executive Chairman of Ilesa West Local Government, Hon. Olabode Segun (popularly known as Shigopapa), has presented a ₦5,207,600,092 (Five Billion, Two Hundred and Seven Million, Six Hundred Thousand and Ninety-Two Naira) appropriation bill to the Council’s Legislative Arm, outlining a comprehensive fiscal plan aimed at accelerating grassroots development and improving the quality of life of residents.
Tagged the “Budget of Freedom,” the 2026 financial proposal is designed as a people-centred blueprint focused on unlocking socio-economic opportunities, strengthening public service delivery, and promoting inclusive growth across Ilesa West Local Government.
Presenting the budget before councillors and party stakeholders, Hon. Olabode Segun stated that the proposal reflects the administration’s commitment to responsive governance and aligns with the developmental aspirations of APC in the state and the country.
He said “This budget represents our resolve to free our people from the constraints of underdevelopment by investing strategically in critical sectors that directly impact daily living. It is a budget anchored on education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, employment, and youth empowerment,”
KEY FOCUS AREAS OF THE BUDGET OF FREEDOM
According to the chairman, the ₦5.21bn proposal prioritises the following sectors:
1) EDUCATION: Targeted investments to improve learning infrastructure, enhance educational outcomes, and support human capital development.
2) HEALTH: Strengthening primary healthcare delivery through facility upgrades and improved access to essential medical services.
3) Agriculture: Support for farmers, improved productivity, food security, and rural income generation.
4) INFRASTRUCTURE: Development and rehabilitation of critical local infrastructure to boost economic activities and connectivity.
5) EMPLOYMENT AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT: Skills acquisition programmes, entrepreneurship support, and job creation initiatives aimed at reducing unemployment and empowering young people.
Hon. Segun Olabode urged the legislative arm to give the budget timely consideration, stressing that effective collaboration between the executive and legislative arms is crucial for successful implementation and tangible impact.
The Leader of the House, Hon. Ibironke Obafemi, commended the chairman for the clarity and people-oriented nature of the proposal. He assured the executive of the legislature’s full support while reaffirming its constitutional role.
“The House will support the success of this administration and will also serve as a watchdog to ensure that the Budget of Freedom is implemented to the letter. We are committed to working with the chairman to make implementation seamless and beneficial to our people,” Hon. Obafemi said.

The budget presentation was witnessed by notable APC party stalwarts, including Hon. L. B. Ayeni (FMHR), Hon. Ajeleti, Hon. Agbadaoje, Barrister Gbenga Onigbogi, Hon adagunodo, Hon. Phillips, Hon. Tobi Famurewa, alongside party leaders, faithfuls, and other stakeholders, who described the proposal as timely and capable of driving sustainable development in Ilesa West Local Government.
The presentation marked a significant step toward collaborative governance, with both arms of government expressing readiness to ensure that the Budget of Freedom delivers meaningful dividends of democracy to the people.
