Obokun LGA Chairman, Maaroof Ogundipe Clears 10-Month Salary Arrears of Casual, Health Workers; Promises Improved Welfare
The Chairman of Obokun Local Government Area, Engr. Maaroof Ogundipe, has approved and completed the payment of 10 months’ outstanding salary arrears owed to casual and health workers of the council, ending months of uncertainty and hardship for the affected workers and their families.
The intervention represents a major relief for grassroots workers who had gone unpaid after being disengaged during the tenure of the defunct local government caretaker committee imposed on the council by the state government under the Adeleke administration.
Speaking on the development, Engr. Ogundipe described the clearance of the arrears as a moral duty and a clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to people-centred governance and social justice.
“These workers are not just staff of the council; they are heads of families and vital contributors to the smooth running of our local government. It is unacceptable for them to be owed for months. Clearing these arrears is about restoring dignity, compassion, and responsible leadership,” the chairman said.
He further assured that the payment of the arrears is the first step in a broader plan to strengthen workers’ welfare, stressing that his administration is determined to implement a more sustainable and inclusive welfare package for all categories of council employees.
“Our focus going forward is job security, improved welfare, and prompt payment of salaries and entitlements. The wellbeing of our workers will remain central to governance in Obokun,” Ogundipe added.
Beneficiaries of the payment have commended the chairman for what they described as a timely and uplifting intervention, noting that the gesture has brought renewed hope amid the prevailing economic challenges.
The Obokun Local Government leadership reiterated its resolve to rebuild trust in grassroots administration and ensure that workers’ welfare remains a top priority of the Ogundipe-led government.
