Education in Osun State: The Need for a New Direction

Education is the foundation of progress in any society. Without qualified teachers and adequate learning materials, schools cannot function effectively. A classroom without a teacher is like a vehicle without a driver—it simply cannot move forward.

In Osun State, concerns have continued to grow over shortages of teachers and insufficient teaching resources in public schools. Many stakeholders worry that the dismissal of  1,500 teachers employed by the previous administration created a vacuum that has yet to be properly filled. Attempts at recruitment have reportedly faced challenges, leaving applicants and communities frustrated.

If this is the present condition of the education sector, the pressing question becomes: is there hope for improvement?

Supporters believe that Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji possesses the experience, understanding, and commitment needed to reposition the education sector for lasting growth. They argue that his appreciation for education and awareness of its strategic importance would translate into deliberate policies focused on recruiting qualified teachers, providing adequate learning materials, and restoring confidence in public schools.

As part of his demonstrated commitment to learning and intellectual growth, supporters note that he enrolled for a PhD programme at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, despite already holding multiple academic qualifications. They view this as evidence of his belief that education is a lifelong pursuit and a cornerstone of meaningful leadership.

For Osun to move forward, education must be treated as a top priority. The future of the state depends on well-equipped classrooms, motivated teachers, and students given the tools to succeed. Many now look toward a new era of leadership with the hope that the education system will be strengthened and restored to excellence.
