Odole Chieftaincy Controversy: the stance of Owa Obokun Palace

The palace of the Owa Obokun Adimula has urged the public to disregard what it described as misleading claims by Adebola Orolugbagbe regarding a purported “triumphant return” to the Odole Chieftaincy House in Ilesa.

In a statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the palace, Barrister Dupe Ajayi Gbadebo, and released through media aide Isaac Haastrup, the palace described the circulating leaflets as a calculated attempt to misinform the public and disrupt peace in the community.

The statement clarified that the court is yet to commence hearing on the suit filed by Orolugbagbe challenging his removal by the Owa Obokun over allegations of gross misconduct.

According to the palace, the court directives being referenced by Orolugbagbe are merely interim measures aimed at maintaining status quo pending full hearing of the case, and do not in any way confer legitimacy, restore authority, or validate any claim of reinstatement.

“It is misleading and unlawful for any individual to claim victory or assert authority before the substantive matter is heard and determined by a competent court,” the statement noted.
The palace further condemned the actions of Orolugbagbe and Busuyi Gbadamosi, accusing them of resorting to self-help by allegedly interfering with the bailiff service process and causing tension at the Odole Chieftaincy House.

Reaffirming its position, the palace stated that both individuals are no longer recognised in their former capacities, having been officially removed by the Owa Obokun, the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.

The public was therefore advised to refrain from engaging with or recognising Orolugbagbe and Gbadamosi in any traditional capacity until the court delivers a final judgment on the matter.
