The Director-General of the Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke, today met with the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to seek their prayers, blessings, and spiritual support as he formally committed the AMBO project into God’s hands ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
During the engagement, Hon. Wole Oke highlighted key interventions of the APC-led federal government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He noted significant strides in national development, including ongoing road infrastructure projects nationwide, progressive reforms in the power sector enabling subnational governments nd private investors to generate electricity, and improved allocations to states and local governments driven by current economic reforms.
He emphasized that this is a critical moment for Osun State to strategically align with the Federal Government in order to attract accelerated development and maximize emerging economic opportunities.
According to him, Osun State is in urgent need of potable water, motorable roads, improved economic conditions, and enhanced security. He assured that an incoming APC administration would decisively address these developmental challenges and reposition the state for sustainable growth and prosperity.
Hon. Oke further stressed that Osun requires a leader with a deep understanding of governance, fairness in resource distribution, and a genuine commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy—qualities he noted are currently lacking. He described Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) as a credible and competent alternative, well-equipped to provide purposeful and people-orientated leadership.
Reflecting on his personal background, Hon. Oke noted that he attended public schools and understands the realities of rural communities. He expressed concern over the current state of the education sector in Osun, particularly the shortage of qualified teachers and insufficient investment in public education.
“I present to you our candidate, the flagbearer of our great party, the APC. He is a thoroughbred administrator, a trained development expert, and a man of sound intellect,” he stated.
He also emphasized the importance of inclusivity, noting that the Christian community deserves its fair share of the dividends of democracy and active participation in governance. He urged Christians across Osun State to seize the opportunity to join the APC in driving economic revitalization and shared prosperity.
In their response, the CAN leadership warmly received the APC Campaign Council. Those present included Reverend Dr. John Adegboyega Adeleke (Chairman, OSCAN); Reverend Dr. Ebenezer Babatope (Secretary, OSCAN); Overseer Fasoyin Kayode (Mission Director); Prophet Apostle Samson Opadotun (PRO I); Mrs Agnes Adeoye (Financial Secretary); Pastor Ajayi Joseph (Assistant Secretary); Dr. P. O. Oyebiyi (Director of Education); Elder O. S. Adetoye (Treasurer); and Aogo Olumide (PRO II).
Addressing the religious leaders, Hon. Oke said, "Baba and Mama, you are God’s oracles, and we have come to seek your blessings, guidance, and prayers.”
In his remarks, Reverend Dr. Adegboyega Adeleke commended Hon. Oluwole Oke for what he described as a mature and Christian-minded presentation, devoid of vulgarity and toxic political brinkmanship.
He noted that successive administrations in the state have made their respective contributions, adding that he was particularly impressed by the tone, depth, and sincerity of Hon. Oke’s engagement.
“I am pleased with your maturity and thoroughness,” he stated.
Speaking further, the CAN Chairman emphasized that the body represents the collective interests of the Christian community across the state. He disclosed that he had previously met with the party’s candidate and his running mate, expressing satisfaction with their disposition and conduct.
“We have had the opportunity to interact with your candidate and his deputy, and we are encouraged by what we have seen. However, we call for further engagement to clearly understand the specific plans and policy direction of the proposed administration as it concerns the Christian population in the state,” he added.
Reverend Dr. Adeleke also used the opportunity to counsel political actors and the general public on the need to sustain peace and unity.
“Let us continue to embrace peace, remain tolerant of one another, and show love across all divides. Peace remains paramount, and we must all strive to uphold it at all times,” he advised.
He further urged that due recognition and institutional support be accorded to Christian bodies in governance, particularly highlighting the importance of the Christian Welfare Board.
“When you assume office by God’s grace, the Christian Welfare Board must be given its rightful place. The Christian community should not be overlooked. Ensure fair representation and give Christians their due in your administration,” he stressed.
In his response, Hon. Oke assured the CAN leadership that their concerns would be given due consideration. He requested that their needs and proposals be formally documented to enable proper assessment, prioritization, and integration into the administration’s development agenda.
Other members of the delegation present at the meeting included Comrade Dr. Oyebade Gboyega, Bishop Mike Adewale, Hon. Kamil Oyedele, Hon. Iyanda Tunji, Omolebi-Sunday Segun Tunde, Hon. Mercy Ayodele, Comrade Soji Ogungbemi, Festus Karonwi, Hon. Gbenga Falope, and Iseoluwa Omole.
