Adeleke’s False Allegations Against APC Another Desperate Attempt to Gain Public Sympathy• APC Urges Governor to Hand Aides Emir Ajagungbade, Nurudeen Alowonle, Other Thugs to Police to Answer for Murder, Terrorism Cases Against Them

PRESS STATEMENT

The attention of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council has been drawn to yet another round of reckless falsehoods and baseless allegations by Governor Ademola Adeleke accusing supporters of our great party of perpetrating violence and vandalizing government properties and campaign billboards across the state.

Ordinarily, such laughable accusations would not deserve a response, but it has become necessary to set the record straight and expose the desperation and hypocrisy of a governor who has clearly become jittery over his impending electoral defeat.

Governor Adeleke’s latest outburst is nothing more than a calculated attempt to attract public sympathy after woefully failing to provide purposeful leadership and good governance for the people of Osun State.
Having squandered public goodwill through incompetence, propaganda, political vendetta and mismanagement of public resources, the governor has now resorted to cheap blackmail and diversionary tactics.

It is important to remind the public that Governor Adeleke and his political camp turned against security agencies in the state the moment those agencies refused to betray the Nigerian Constitution, violate the rule of law and disregard valid court judgements reinstating the APC-led local government leadership unlawfully sacked by the Adeleke administration.

The governor had expected the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies to obey illegal directives and undermine constitutional democracy. When these agencies refused to compromise professionalism and constitutional order, Governor Adeleke and his aides launched coordinated attacks against them, insulting their leadership with unprintable names and inciting members of the public against law enforcement institutions.

This dangerous and unbecoming conduct from a sitting governor must not be ignored. It is a serious threat to democratic order and public peace if such an awful and unstatesmanlike attitude is left unchecked.

Today, Governor Adeleke is practically fighting virtually all security agencies operating in Osun State because they have repeatedly advised him to rein in some of his supporters and appointees who are associated with criminal activities.

Multiple security reports, available to relevant authorities, have reportedly advised the governor to distance himself from suspected criminals and stop shielding individuals already declared wanted by the police.

One of such individuals is Olalekan Emir Ajagungbade, a Special Assistant to Governor Adeleke, who is on the wanted list of the police. Emir Ajagungbade, after being granted bail over allegations bordering on murder, kidnapping and terrorism, is currently on the run but allegedly being shielded within the corridors of the Government House at Okefia.

Security sources have also linked Emir Ajagungbade to the coordination and vandalization of campaign billboards and promotional materials belonging to our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

Another disturbing case is that of Nurudeen Alawonle, another associate and appointee of Governor Adeleke, who was arrested with a serviced pistol and ammunition over a year ago.

Rather than allowing justice to take its course, the governor allegedly used the influence of his office to sweep the matter under the carpet.

The question Nigerians should ask is simple: why should an individual arrested with arms and ammunition be walking freely on the streets of Osogbo? Is it because he is politically connected to the governor?

Furthermore, reliable information indicates that the recent vandalization of Governor Adeleke’s billboards was a fallout of internal disagreements among cult groups allegedly mobilized by the governor’s family members, including his nephew, Davido, and some of the governor’s children during their recent visit to Osogbo.

The disagreement reportedly centered on the sharing formula of money allegedly handed to the groups after being hired for political activities. Those who felt cheated in the sharing arrangement allegedly turned against one another, leading to attacks and destruction of the governor’s own campaign materials.

What happened was therefore self-induced--- a direct consequence of the culture of criminality, thuggery and brigandage tolerated and encouraged within the political camp of the governor and his Accord Party. It is purely an internal crisis within the Adeleke political structure, and the APC must not be falsely accused or dragged into their chaos.

The APC remains a law-abiding and peace-loving political party. We do not need violence, intimidation or thuggery to defeat the outgoing Governor Adeleke. The people of Osun State have already withdrawn their trust and support from him due to his poor performance, divisive politics and lack of capacity to direct the state to a path of genuine prosperity.

No amount of propaganda, emotional blackmail or desperate attempts to hold onto a straw will save Governor Adeleke from the political defeat awaiting him on August 15.

We therefore call on Governor Adeleke to immediately hand over these compromised appointees and associates to law enforcement agencies and allow the police and other security institutions to perform their constitutional duties without interference.

The governor must stop these crocodile tears and rise above these shameful shenanigans driven by desperation for political survival.

Indeed, if there is anyone who should be investigated and arrested by law enforcement agencies, it is Governor Ademola Adeleke and some of his acolytes whose body language, utterances and conduct continue to embolden thuggery, lawlessness and criminality in Osun State.
