Roads, Power, Security Top Osun LG Agenda as Financial Autonomy Takes Effect — Lanre Balogun
The Vice Chairman of the Osun State Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Executive Chairman of Ilesa East Local Government, Hon. Lanre Balogun, has assured residents of improved grassroots development following the implementation of financial autonomy for local government councils across the country.
Balogun gave the assurance during the Ijesa South Federal Constituency press briefing held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the Ilesa Social Elites Club.
Speaking on the impact of the newly granted financial autonomy for local governments, the council chairman said residents would continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy through various developmental projects across the local councils.
According to him, ongoing and proposed interventions include drainage construction, road grading, rural electrification projects, and enhanced security operations.
“Now that the local government areas have been granted financial autonomy, the constituents will continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy in terms of drainage and road grading. In the coming days, we are also looking towards electrification,” he said.
Balogun disclosed that transformers and solar panels had already been procured to support electricity projects in various communities.
On security, the ALGON Vice Chairman revealed that 90 Hilux patrol vehicles had been acquired for security operatives across Osun State to strengthen safety and rapid response operations.
He added that motorcycles were also distributed to security personnel about three weeks ago to improve mobility and effectiveness in combating insecurity at the grassroots level.
Balogun commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for policies supporting local government autonomy, saying the development has created opportunities for councils to directly impact the lives of residents.
“We have to thank our President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for making all these and more possible,” he stated.
